Getting Started
From “Log In” screen choose "Register New User" and fill in form.
Click on button "Register" at the bottom of the form.
You should receive an email, confirming that you have been successfully registered.
If you did not find this email in your "Inbox" folder, please check "Junk" or "Spam" folder
and adjust mail settings to redirect mail from "ByteUnited" to "Inbox" folder.
Click on URL at the bottom of email to validate your electronic address.
Now you should receive notification that your email address has been validated successfully.
One of ByteUnited administrators should approve your request.
After being approved you become full-fledged ByteUnited Office user.
Download and Install
Perform Login.
After successful login at the menu-bar select menu "User-Icon".
At the sub-menu click on command "Download".
In a short while notification regarding setup file "dmsetup.exe" will pop-up on the screen.
Click on file "dmsetup.exe".
At the Windows protection warning click on link "More info".
At the Windows protection warning click on button "Run anyway".
Follow instructions of the Windows Application Installer.
After installation icon of the application DocImpress will be placed on the desktop.
Start Application
At desktop double-click on icon DocImpress.
Fill in the "Log In" screen.
To skip process of logining in a future select check-button "Remember Me"
if you are running application on a personal computer.
Click on button "Sign In".
Select section "Projects".
Right-click on the default project "Personal Documents".
Click on sub-command "New Workspace" at the context menu.
At the form "Check out Project" entry "Workspace" is filled in by default value.
It is recommended to individualize name of the workspace.
Click on button "Start" to start process of creating workspace.
Add Files to Workspace
At the menu-bar select menu "Workspace".
At the sub-menu click on command "Add Files to Workspace".
At the given form select folders and files that should be added to the workspace.
Confirmation form gives a chance to make final decision, which files should be
added to the workspace and which ones should be rejected.
For the convenience of file selection, provided a possibility to group files by
extensions.
Click on button "Confirm" to start copy selected files to workspace.
After copiing is done, selected files appear at the section "New Files".
Submit New Files to Project
At the section "New Files" select files, that should be submitted to the project.
At the context menu (click right mouse button over selected files) click on command
"Add to Project".
Files appear at the section "Modified Files" (only files, reflected at the section
"Modified Files" may be submitted to the project).
At the menu-bar select button "Submit to Project".
At the given form user has a chance to reject some files. Mandatory comments, describing
necessity of new files, should be written at the section "Comments".
After clicking button "Submit" all selected files will be submitted to the project.
As submition is done section "Modified Files" is cleaned up and have only one
entry "(No modified files)".
Update Workspace
In the left field of the main page of the DocImpress select a workspace of interest.
If project modifications have been submitted by another co-worker, background of the text
field "Status" would change to pink and it's text would change to "Needs Update;
To check changes, at the tab "All Events" select revision of interest and at the section
"Submitted Files" select file of interest. At the context menu (click right mouse button
over selected file) click on command "Show Changes". In a short while file comparing tool
will appear on the screen.
To update workspace select button "Update Workspace" at the menu-bar.
After successful update of workspace background of the text field "Status" will change
to blue and it's text will change to "Up-to-date".
File editing. Make changes to the project and submit them.
At the workspace of interest select text file that needs some modifications. At the context
menu (click right mouse button over selected file) click on command "Open".
Use suggested file editor to make all necessary changes.
Select tab "Changes". File, where recent changes have been undertaken, should appear at the
section "Modified Files". To check those changes select file of interest and at the content
menu click on command "Show Changes".In a short while file comparing tool will appear on
the screen.
To submit recent changes to the project select button "Submit to Project" at the menu-bar.
At the form "Submit Log Record" at the section "Select Files to Submit" listed files,
where changes have been made. At this section user can make final decision and select only
those files, changes at which should be submitted to the project.
Mandatory description of undertaken changes should be written at the section "Comments".
After final selections have been made and mandatory comments have been written,
click on button "Submit".
Display the history of files.
To display history of particular file click on arrow to the left of the file of interest -
list of all submittals, where selected file was present, will appear grouped by the date
of submittal.
To get list of files that were submitted at particular project revision, select revision
of interest and click on button "View Submitted Files" at the top right corner of the form -
list of files, submitted at particular project revision, will appear at the section
"Submitted Files".
To check changes, made at particular file at the selected submittal, select file of interest
and at the context menu (click right mouse button over selected file) click on command
"Show Changes".
To view latest version of the particular file in its original viewer, select file of interest
and at the context menu click on command "Open".
Annotate the document.
The main purpose of the tool called "Annotation" is to track all changes made to a particular file. You can select any revision of the file and see the author and date of any line with this tool. Annotations allow you to view changes between any two revisions of a file. The annotation highlights the changes made by the author in the revision chosen.
Visit the web site to inspect the project.
Visit web site ByteUnited is another way to show the progress of project.
ByteUnited Web Office (BUW) is a Single-page web application with all the functionality of a desktop application. The website is designed to be viewed both on desktop and mobile browsers. It is possible to see the history of submissions based on Files, Dates and Authors. For selected files, it shows file changes and text previews if possible. BUW has integration with Microsoft web office 365 and other web based viewers to show any version of file in natural view. You can open Microsoft any version of word document. BUW allows to view text difference between versions of word document. Also you can see text difference between versions of PowerPoint document. Microsoft web office 365 allows to show PowerPoint presentation from ByteUnited Web Office. Feel free to go to page "Demo" and investigate the rich functionality of BUW.
Future development of BUW will allow you to upload, edit and submit files from web browser. We will implement collaborative editing and secured chat using BUW message exchange functionality.
Submit an excel document after editing.
DocImpress has integration with Microsoft Office. Open Excel document from DocImpress application and edit it. After saving document DocImpress shows the status of it in tab "Changes". Using SpeadSheetCompare from Microsoft, DocImpress allows to explore changes in selected file. When work with document is done, push button "Submit to Project". DocImpress demands to provide comments with every submit. Spell checking allows to correct wrong words. Comments will be shown in a history of projects and allow other team member understand the purpose of changes. Later particular submit could be found by using "Submit Comment Search" tool of DocImpress. After successful submission, the "Modified Files" section will be cleaned.
Display changes and restore Excel documents.
DocImpress allows to restore any particular version of file. Open the file history for chosen Excel document and explore the changes made by particular submitters. The previous version of the file can be restored if something is wrong with the changes for a selected submission. You can do that by opening the previous version and saving it in the current workspace. A file's latest version will be replaced with its oldest version. After saving document DocImpress shows the status of it in tab "Changes". The DocImpress allows to view changes and finalize this document. When the file is ready, it should be submitted as a new version. The wrong version becomes the previous and is kept in the file history. This prevents data loss caused by human error.
Display changes in your presentation.
Here's a demonstration of DocImpress's integration with Microsoft PowerPoint. Open the file history for chosen PowerPoint document and explore presentation of particular submitters. Presentation changes cannot be viewed directly in PowerPoint. For this purpose, ByteUnited developed a tool that extracts raw text from documents. This tool allows you to compare text between different versions of a presentation.
Cleanup workspace.
The DocImpress provides you with full control over the changes you make to your workspace. If you make a mistake or encounter an unknown file, you can undo that change. You can do this by right-clicking the selected file on the tab "Changes". Selecting "Undo Workspace Changes" or "Undo File Changes" will undo the changes. The latest version of the file or workspace will be restored. "Remove New Files" is an option in the section "New Files". The workspace will be cleaned of all unwanted new files.
Close DocImpress.
The last thing you do after working with documents is close DocImpress. DocImpress will check running applications and allow you to save files before closing. This allows data loss prevention if encrypted workspaces are closed and inaccessible. You can either force-close the application with data loss or go into the application and save the file. DocImpress closes the server session and quits when it is finished.
